GOSNELL --The Gosnell Pirates improved to 5-1 in the 3-4A conference after sweeping a conference double-header over Trumann Tuesday.

The Pirates won the first game, 12-2, and took the nightcap, 10-3.

GAME ONE Gosnell 12, Trumann 2

The Gosnell Pirates scored nine runs over the third and fourth innings on their way to a 12-2 win in five innings in the first game of a conference double-header against the Trumann Wildcats.

Justin Mann picked up the five-inning complete game win for the Pirates on the mound. Mann allowed two runs on four hits while striking out six. The Pirates got on the board with a run in the first before a four-run third and a five-run fifth. Carlos Blackman's solo shot highlighted the five-run inning before the Pirates ended the game early with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Blackman (2-3, home run, double and 2 runs scored), Andrew Scott (single and 2 runs scored), Chad Wright (3-4, 2 doubles, single and 2 runs scored), Michael Miller (single, double and 2 runs scored), Will Camp (single and a run scored), Cody Robinson (single and 2 runs scored), Hunter Jolly (2 singles and a run scored) and Tabari Herron (double) powered the Pirate offense.

GAME TWO Gosnell 10, Trumann 3

The Pirates scored six runs over the first three innings on their way to a 10-3 win in the nightcap of the double-header.

Gosnell scored three runs in each of the second and third innings and four in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory over Trumann.

Gosnell hurler Will Camp went the distance allowing no earned runs and four hits while striking out eight and walking none in seven complete innings of work.

Camp also went 2-2 at the plate with a double, a triple and two runs scored to help his cause.

Also picking up hits for the Pirates were Andrew Scott (2 singles), Chad Wright (single), Justin Mann (single), Cody Robinson (single), Carlos Blackman (single, a triple and 2 runs scored), Hunter Jolly (3-3, 3 singles and a run scored) and Tabari Herron (single and a run scored).

Gosnell (8-5, 5-1 3-4A) is scheduled to play in the Dyersburg, Tenn. tournament beginning Wednesday, April 1 through Saturday, April 4.

SOFTBALL

The host Gosnell Lady Pirates dropped both games of a 3-4A conference double- header to Trumann Tuesday night.

Trumann won the first game, 7-4 and game two 14-0 in four innings.

GAME ONE Trumann 7, Gosnell 4

Trumann scratched out a 7-4 win over the Lady Pirates in game one.

The Lady Wildcats scored two in the second inning, two more in the third and the fifth and one in the sixth.

Gosnell scored runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings despite collecting 11 hits on the night.

Jackie Brees (2-4), Callie Kennemore (1-4), Macie Cain (2-4), Brista Hinklin (2-4), Ciara Watson (2-4), Carrington Tubbs (1-4) and Alexis Quick (2-3) collected hits for the Lady Pirates.

GAME TWO Trumann 14, Gosnell 0

Trumann scored five runs in each of the first two innings on their way to a 14-0 shutout of the Lady Pirates in four innings.

Trumann scored one more in the third and three in the fourth to end the scoring on the night.

Gosnell managed four hits during the game with Macie Cain, Jackie Brees, Emma Weeks and Taylor Jones collecting singles.

Gosnell (4-7, 1-5 3-4A) heads to Nettleton Thursday to take on the 5A-East Lady Raiders and then travels across town to take on area rival, Armorel, Friday night.
