Barbara Jean Clayborn Jones Burks
Barbara Jean Clayborn Jones Burks, 73, of Chicago, departed this life Saturday, March 8, 2015.
She was born March 3, 1941, to the late Homer Clayborn Sr. and Alberta Clayborn.
Barbara was educated in the Blytheville Public Schools and attended Franklin and Harrison High. She worked as a beautician and for Pepsi-Cola Company. Later, she moved to Chicago where she worked for West Suburban Hospital.
Barbara confessed her hope in Christ at a young age at True Light Missionary Baptist Church in Blytheville under the leadership of the Rev. Weaver. Later she joined Jeremiah Temple under the leadership of Bishop Roscoe Roberson. Later she moved back to Chicago and joined Bethel Lutheran Church under the leadership of Rev. David Nelson.
Barbara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was loved by many. Fishing was her favorite hobby. Just a few weeks ago she asked her son, "Do you think Cordie would let us take Mike boat out?" She also enjoyed watching wrestling.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Homer Clayborn Sr. and mother, Alberta Clayborn; three brothers, Robert Clayborn, Larry Clayborn and Homer Clayborn Jr.; and three sons, Patrick L. Jones, Michael D. Jones and Terry Jones.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Tony Burks;
Her sons, Otis Jones Jr. and Douglas Jones, both of Blytheville, and Victor Jones, Slyvester Jones, Homer Jones and Dewaun Jones, all of Chicago;
A daughter, Juanita Hardnick;
A daughter-in-law, Cordie Jones;
Her sisters, Teresa (Kenneth) Anderson and Rosalyn Alexander, both of Warner Robins, Georgia, Leona (Michael-deceased) Robinson of Columbia, Georgia, and Von Clayborn Coney and Diane Clayborn Scott, both of Chicago;
Her brothers, Charles (Louise) Williams of Blytheville, Sylvester (Judy) Tobias of Detroit and Ronald Clayborn of Memphis;
Her Godmother, Ollie Mae Cherry of Little Rock; and
A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
