Daddy's Diamonds held its second annual "Daddy's Girls Rock" event on Feb. 21 at the Wellspring Church Student Center. Despite inclement weather, the event was a success. Daddy's Diamonds held its second annual "Daddy's Girls Rock" event on Feb. 21 at the Wellspring Church Student Center. Despite inclement weather, the event was a success.

One diamond from each of the four classes was selected to be honored on that night for the commitment that they have shown in the weekly life skills classes. Girls that were honored include Nikiya Lawson, La'Desire'e Holloway, Tri'neeka Washington and Phillipians Foster.

The Delta Sigma Theta sorority was honored because of its outstanding dedication and service to the community. Also honored was Pastor Terry Brassfield of H.I.S. ministries for her leadership ability and strength, and Mrs. Joyce Sanders was awarded the Honorary Diamond Award for unwavering support and commitment to the community.

Each individual received a plaque and a Daddy's Diamonds shirt.

Honorary mention was bestowed to Daddy's Diamonds teacher Ms. Norma Valley and Daddy's Diamonds mentor Ms. Nina Watson for their outstanding commitment and dedication toward the organization.

One of the highlights of the event was the panel, which was hosted by DD mentor Katrina Evans. Panelists included Mrs. Finda Robertson, Sandy Gillespie, Chavis Spann, Lisa Beal, Melissa Logan and Doug Echols Jr.

Questions were chosen by the Daddy's Diamonds girls for each of the panelists to address. Some of the questions included topics on self-esteem, comprehensive sex education and dressing for success.
