Arkansas Northeastern College hosted a two-day symposium promoting civic and community engagement on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The event featured a viewing of the award-winning documentary "Come Walk in My Shoes," the story of John Lewis' fight for equality and voting rights, as well as an open forum discussion with panelists Mayor James Sanders, Dr. Alice Patterson, Doug Echols, Chris Caveney and former Rep. Tommy Baker.

The panel answered questions and voiced opinions on issues such racial bias' affect on community harmony and unity, the affects of racial profiling and how to relate to those who experience profiling, the importance of voting and being engaged in the civic and political climate and empathy, selflessness and interdependence among all people.
