The Junior Mustangs capped off a 29-2 season by capturing the 2A-3 district title this past Saturday in Rector. They finished as runner-up in conference play.
BIC raced out to an 8-0 lead as Chayse Carmichael canned a three-pointer to open the scoring followed by baseline jumper from Andrew McFarlin. Carmichael drilled another three-pointer before Markel Perry hit a jumper in the lane for Marked Tree to make it 8-2 Junior Mustangs.
McFarlin hit a jumper in the lane, Carmichael scored inside and McFarlin added another jumper to make it 14-2 BIC at the end of one.
Marked Tree's Julian Booker and Carmichael traded baskets to make it 16-4 BIC before Booker and Coleman hit back to back buckets for the Junior Indians to cut the BIC lead to 16-8. Booker hit one of two free throws before scoring off an offensive rebound to make it 16-11 Junior Mustangs. McFarlin hit a jumper for BIC and Coleman put back an offensive rebound for Marked Tree to make it 18-13 BIC at halftime.
Booker and Coleman hit back to back buckets for Marked Tree to cut the BIC lead to 18-17 early in the fourth quarter. BIC answered with two free throws from McFarlin and a three-ball from Canon Walling to push their lead to 23-17.
Coleman hit one of two free shots and Booker got an easy basket after a steal for the Junior Indians to make it 23-20 Junior Mustangs. BIC scored the last six points of the quarter to take a 29-20 lead to the final quarter. Brady Clark scored inside, Walling made a layup off a steal and Clark put back an offensive rebound for BIC.
BIC stretched the lead to 34-20 with a three-pointer from Walling and offensive rebound put back from Carmichael. Marked Tree answered with two free throws from Coleman and a three-pointer from Booker to make it 34-25 Junior Mustangs.
McFarlin hit two free throws for BIC before Marked Tree got a bucket from Perry and a three-pointer from Trayvius Brown making the score 36-20 BIC. McFarlin hit two free throws after being fouled and then hit one of two free throws after Booker was whistled for a technical foul for Marked Tree setting the final at 39-30.
McFarlin led all scorers with 15 points for BIC followed by Carmichael with 12 points.
Booker finished with 14 for Marked Tree.
BIC also finished in second place in the conference.
