The local community theater group Act 2!, will hold auditions for its new play, "Mary, Mary" from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, 2-4 p.m. Saturday and from 6-8 p.m. Monday, at the Ritz Civic Center in downtown Blytheville.
"Mary Mary" is written by Jean Kerr, and will be under the direction of Tonya Harris and Ken Jackson through special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc.
The play includes roles for three men and two women. Anyone interested in helping with lights, sound, stage construction, costumes or any other "behind the scenes" aspects is encouraged to be at one of the auditions as well.
"Mary, Mary" was first presented by Robert L. Stevens at the Helen Hayes Theater in New York City, on March 8, 1961. This comedy has book publisher Bob McKellaway seeing his ex-wife Mary for the first time in nine months after being brought together by their lawyer Oscar Nelson over some tax matters. The situation becomes even more complicated when Bob's old Navy buddy and a fading movie star, Dirk Winston, falls for Mary. Throw in Bob's fiancée, Tiffany Richards, and things get very sticky very quickly.
Acclaimed as one of the great theater successes, this sparkling comedy offers a warm and witty examination of a modern marriage gone hilariously awry.
For those interested in attending any of the performances of Act 2!'s production of "Mary, Mary," shows will be held at the Ritz Civic Center at 7 p.m. Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21, and again at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22. Ticket prices will be $10 for adults, with rates available for multiple performances or for groups.
