CLARKTON, Mo. -- A Bootheel man was injured in a shootout with police Wednesday night.
At approximately 5:55 p.m. Dunklin County communications received a call from a Clarkton resident stating there was a man in their yard with a gun.
Clarkton officers were dispatched to an address on Clark street in Clarkton.
According to Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder, upon the officers' arrival the male subject stepped from his vehicle and discharged a weapon toward one of the officers.
"One of the officers returned fire, striking the male subject who was later identified as Elton Loughary of Clarkton," Holder said. "Mr. Loughary was transported from the scene by ambulance to the helicopter pad in Clarkton where he was transferred to a helicopter and flown to The Med in Memphis."
The incident is being investigated by the Missouri Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control, The Dunklin County Major Case Squad and assistance from the Dunklin County Sheriffs' Office and the Malden Police Department.
