The Mississippi County Quorum Court's Finance Committee agreed Monday to accept the transition of the election coordinator's job from Johnny Buchanon to George Hale on April 1, 2015.

In a previous meeting, Hale said he would be willing to step down from his position on the election commission once he begins the job of coordinator. Hale also requested payment from the county for the time he will spend training in between now and when he assumes the new position, but members of the committee chose Monday to deny that request, citing the fact that after next week's general election, there will be no more election activity through when the new position would start.

The committee reviewed budget proposals from the Landfill and Roads departments, both of which are stand-alone accounts with their own revenue streams. The Roads Department budget for 2015 will have a projected surplus of $218,799, including some CD funds, if no further changes are made. The Landfill Department, however, will have a shortfall of approximately $240,000 that will have to be transferred from county general in order to balance the budget.

Members also discussed starting the bidding process for contractors to begin installing the new leachate pumping system, which has to be upgraded in order for new landfill cell construction permits to be issued.

The budgeting process will continue Thursday with a proposal from the county''s senior citizens program.
