Margaree Rogers Jones is seeking the Ward 1, Position 2 seat in the upcoming Blytheville City Council elections.
Jones, a native of Blytheville, is the daughter of the late T.J. and Tallie Ann Rogers. She graduated from Blytheville High School in 1990 and spent 18 years as an entrepreneur within the community. She serves as the director of the summer feeding program and the at-risk after-school program at Prince of Peace Church.
"The reason I'm running is because I realize this is a good opportunity to help my community," she said. "You know, Blytheville has never been like this before, and I have a lot of concerns when it comes down to my city because I'm a citizen too, a taxpayer. I have a lot of time on my hands and I'm ready to work. I know I can do it. My main thing is that I want to bring the community together because I think that's what the city is lacking, togetherness."
Jones said along with togetherness, she wants to help beautify her city, starting by setting an example with her own ward. She also wants her constituents to know that they have a voice, and she will work to make sure their voice is heard.
"I want people to know I'm not giving up on my city and I'm not going away," she said. "Even if I don't win, I'm going to find a way to help this community. Yes, I'm you ticket to beautify our city."
Jones is running against Stan Parks for the position.
