Shawn Jefferson, 42, who was arrested in June in connection with a Main Street burglary, was arrested again over the weekend, and allegedly assaulted a police officer during a foot pursuit.
According to the Blytheville Police Department, there was a new active burglary warrant issued on Jefferson after he bonded out of custody on the Main Street charges, and an officer observed him Friday night, pulling his vehicle over at Second and Vine streets. While the officer was attempting to take him into custody, Jefferson fled, and when the officer caught up with him, Jefferson allegedly punched him in the face.
The officer suffered minor injuries and was treated by emergency medical personnel at the Police Department. Jefferson is being charged with resisting arrest, second degree battery on a police officer, DWI, refusal of a blood alcohol test, no driver's license, no seat belt and possession of a controlled substance. He will be arraigned in Blytheville District Court on Monday.
Jefferson was arraigned in district court Monday morning and remains in custody. Judge Shannon Langston reduced his bond to $15,000 cash, and he is set to appear in Circuit Court for a plea date on Sept. 25.
