A 16-year-old Blytheville resident was transported to The Regional Medical Center in Memphis Thursday evening after suffering a gunshot wound to the hip.

A 16-year-old Blytheville resident was transported to The Regional Medical Center in Memphis Thursday evening after suffering a gunshot wound to the hip.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the 900 block of Clark Street. Blytheville Police Department officers received a call regarding a 16-year-old gunshot victim who had been shot in the hip. The victim was taken to Great River Medical Center and then flown by helicopter to The Med in Memphis.

Witnesses identified the suspect, a juvenile who had fled the scene before BPD arrived. The suspect was later found on a church parking lot on the corner of Lake and McHaney streets. The suspect, who originally gave officers a fake name, was taken into custody, according to BPD Criminal Investigation Division Capt. Scott Adams.

The juvenile is being charged with first-degree battery and obstructing governmental operations, and was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Blytheville District Court.
