Three generations of Shedds have trained and served as lifeguards at the Manila City Pools.

Wayne Shedd, a retired insurance agent, served as a lifeguard at the original city pool in the mid 1950s.

His father, I.D. Shedd, was Manila mayor in 1952 and was instrumental in getting the first pool built in Manila. That pool continued to serve the community and the surrounding areas for almost a half century.

Thirty years later his daughter, Angie Shedd Schlieff, served as a lifeguard at the city pool in 1985, 1986 and 1987. Angie and her family now live in China where she serves as a fellowship leader.

The Shedd lifeguard tradition continues as the third generation, Wayne's granddaughter, Mikayla Shedd, has been a lifeguard this summer at the new Dunkin-Wall Waterpark/pool.

Mikayla, a Manila High School graduate, attends college Arkansas State University. She will be a junior and is an animal science pre-veterinary major.
