Blytheville Police were busy Saturday morning, responding to two major incidents.

According to Assistant Police Chief Ricky Jefferson, at approximately 4:41 a.m., officers of the Blytheville Police Department responded to an alarm call in the 100 block of Hardin Street. Officers arrived and noticed that entry had been forced to the home.

Officers made entry to clear the residence and discovered a large amount of marijuana, Jefferson said. Officers then backed out of the home and obtained a search warrant to conduct a thorough search of the property.

The homeowner arrived on the scene shortly before officers of the 2nd Judicial Drug Task Force arrived with a search warrant, and the two agencies searched together and determined the marijuana weighed approximately 100 pounds. Officers also located a large sum of money inside of the home.

The homeowner was taken into custody and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning.

Later that morning, at approximately 6:12 a.m., officers of the Blytheville Police Department responded to an alarm call in the area of West Walnut.

Officers received another call advising that the alarm call was valid and a suspect had entered the office area and had been shot by the owner of the property. The owner held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.

Officers secured the premises and the suspect was transported to the hospital.

No charges have been filed at this time, according to BPD Chief Ross Thompson, who said the department was still investigating the incident in tandem with the prosecutor's office.
