Elwood Moerbe
Elwood Moerbe, 81, of Blytheville, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
He was born on March 3, 1933, in Warda, Texas, to Walter and Esther Schneider Moerbe. He was a member of Aldersgate Methodist Church.
He served in the Air Force for 13 years. He worked at the post office in Blytheville for 23 years, and worked full-time at Safeway for 13 years while also working full-time at the post office. He later worked for 4 1/2 years at Kroger. He had also worked at Borg Warner.
Mr. Moerbe enjoyed fishing, hunting and just being outdoors. He thrived on watching the St. Louis Cardinals play. He loved to cook and had a great sense of humor. He was a very independent person. Everyone who knew him knew he was a great person. He really enjoyed his visits from his granddaughter, Sophie. He loved line dancing and knew every step to every dance. He loved music and enjoyed playing the guitar, organ and harmonica. It was a special time for him every day when he spoke with his brothers and sister in Texas. He was a family man. His daughter, Donnie, said, "He was not only my dad, he was my best friend."
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his son, Tim Moerbe of Blytheville;
His daughters, Kimberly Wray and Donnie Moerbe Wages of Jonesboro;
His grandchildren, Joshua Moerbe, Meagan Moerbe, Sophie Moerbe and Casey Wray;
Six great-grandchildren;
Two brothers, Harvey (Janet) Moerbe and Walter (Elaine) Moerbe, all of Texas;
One sister, Laverne Rainosek of Texas;
His best friend, Bobby Morris; and
A host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, in Carney Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Tommy Carney officiating.
