A Blytheville Police Department patrol car caught on fire while officers were responding to a one-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon just north of Walmart off of Interstate 55.

According to the Arkansas State Police, the driver of the white two-door car was northbound on I-55 when he lost control of the vehicle, crossing over the service road and landing in a field.

When BPD Lt. Billy Joe Hancock pulled over to assist with the accident, the catalytic converter caused the fresh-cut grass to catch fire. The BPD vehicle caught on fire and was a complete loss.
