NASHVILLE -- Michael Miller's walk-off double Saturday afternoon sent the Gosnell Pirates to the Class 4A semifinals as they rallied for a 7-6 win over Farmington.
Trailing 6-4 going into the bottom of the seventh in the 4A quarterfinal, Gosnell plated three runs to move within one victory of a trip to Fayetteville. The Pirates loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh as Aaron Stallings and Andrew Scott had back-to-back singles to start the inning. After Chad Wright reached, Will Camp drew a walk to bring in Stallings. Miller followed with the game-ending two-run double.
Gosnell (20-11) will play the winner of the Brookland-Ashdown game at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the 4A semifinals. That winner advances to the championship game, which will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Baum Stadium.
In the quarterfinal, Camp's consecutive game hit streak ended at 30, but he improved his record to 9-0 on the mound, tossing all seven innings.
Gosnell broke a scoreless tie with a run in the third. Adam Ness' lead-off homer in the fourth tied the game again, 1-1. Gosnell answered with a run in its half of the fourth as Ricky Gable crossed the plate on Carlos Blackman's sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.
Farmington answered with a five-run fifth inning to go on top 6-2, the score heading into the bottom of the sixth.
The Pirates chipped away with two in the sixth as Miller and Gable both scored to trim the deficit to 6-4.
Getting hits for the Pirates were Scott, Wright, Miller, Gable, Blackman and Stallings.
