ARMOREL -- The Armorel School District was placed on lockdown for a brief period Thursday morning.

Details were unclear as to why the lockdown was called on Thursday afternoon, though there were reports that the Mississippi County Sheriff's department responded to a call from the school. Superintendent Sally Bennett, who was in Little Rock during the incident, issued a statement Thurs day afternoon.

"As a precautionary measure, the Armorel School District temporarily went on a lockdown status when made aware of a potential threat in the general area. At no time was there a specific threat against the school. The situation has been resolved and the lockdown is now over."

Representatives for the Sheriff's Department said that at no time was there any threat to the school district, neither did they ever respond to a call there. A call was received regarding a truck driver for a local industry who was allegedly discussing guns and making generalized threats in a restaurant. Deputies responded to the scene, escorted the man to his place of work, and searched his vehicle. No guns were found, the driver was terminated from his job, and no arrests were made.
