Manila picked up its sixth straight victory, demolishing Hoxie 11-1 in 3A-3 baseball action Thursday afternoon at Manila. The Lions improved to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Shawn Scoggins went the distance to pick up the win, working six innings while allowing just one unearned run. The southpaw fanned five, walked three while surrendering just two hits.

Manila jumped on top with a four run first inning and led 5-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, when the Lions put the game away, scoring six more runs, invoking the 10-run rule. Zac Riley and Jordan Goff drilled back to back doubles, putting the Lions on top by 10 runs to close the game out.

Riley led Manila at the plate, going 3-4 with three RBI. The Lion third baseman also scored three times. Caleb Reinhart had a pair of hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Goff finished with a double, three RBI and a run scored. Jay Kulin had a two run single while Scoggins and Kyle Joyner both singled and scored one run apiece.

The Lions will try to run their winning streak to seven in a row when they take on Corning in a key 3A-3 conference matchup Tuesday afternoon at Manila. The Lions are scheduled to play East Poinsett County Wednesday afternoon in a nonconference game at home before hosting Piggott Thursday in league action. Manila will close out the week with a road trip Saturday afternoon when they travel to Brookland.
