The Armorel School Board approved the submission of a grant application for an Environmental and Spatial Lab (EAST) at Monday night's monthly board meeting.

ARMOREL -- The Armorel School Board approved the submission of a grant application for an Environmental and Spatial Lab (EAST) at Monday night's monthly board meeting.

The EAST Initiative is a non-profit that supports student-driven community service using teamwork and cutting-edge technology.

In other news from the school board meeting, the board listened to a presentation on the building of bathrooms in the fifth- and sixth-grade building from Stacey McPherson of U.S. Biz, but no action was taken.

High school Principal Scott Smith recognized high school students who competed in the FBLA nationals last weekend. Luisa Towery and Ally Young placed third in Chapter Report, Hunter Tune placed third in Networking Concepts, Kristian Mays placed fourth in Electronic Career Portfolio, and Hannah Glaser was elected state vice president. Smith also recognized Deanna Carr for her work with the organization.

The school board approved a district treasury resolution, dispersing officers, 2014-15 salaries for licensed and classified personnel, personnel policy amendments, amendments to administration, and staff contracts.

The district will hold a Family Night on May 6 to discuss Common Core and PARCC Assessment testing. The kindergarten graduation has been moved from May 20 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 27. The next board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, May 19.
