Becka Bowen has opened Strandz Hair Salon located at the corner of main and 6th Street in Leachville. Bowen, a 2011 graduate of Buffalo Island High School, received her cosmetology training at Arkansas State University Marked Tree Technical College.
"The building and location are perfect for me," Bowen said. "I have always loved working with hair, color and being creative and working with people, so this is a perfect place for me.
Bowen is the daughter of Billy and Paula Bowen. She has lived in Leachville all her life and has been involved in the Buffalo Island Relay For Life, Leachville Watermelon Festival, Christmas parades, and helped with activities benefiting the Leachville Fire Department.
She officially opened Feb. 17 and was welcomed with a ribbon cutting and open house on Saturday, March 15. Refreshments were served and everyone was encouraged to sign up for a drawing with $70 worth of beauty products to be given away March 22. Bowen invites everyone to stop by and register for the drawing throughout the week. She will be open from 1-6 p.m. Monday and Wednesdays, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Walk-ins are welcome. The phone number is (870) 278-5549.
Bowen also works part-time as secretary for Arkansas Northeastern College. She plans to continue with both jobs.
"I like work and I like people," she said. I am looking forward to having my own business. I will be running specials each month. I have had a good reception."
Everyone attending the open house received a coupon for a free hair cut.
