Films are full of thought-provoking ideas about the subject. Some lines are witty; some are deep. Some phrases become pieces of pop culture, taking on a life of their own, passed down from generation to generation.

"Will you love me for the rest of my life?" "No, I'll love you for the rest of mine." ("Phenomenon")

The above line is one of Hollywood's well-known snippets regarding love.

Films are full of thought-provoking ideas about the subject. Some lines are witty; some are deep. Some phrases become pieces of pop culture, taking on a life of their own, passed down from generation to generation.

Some of the great ones can be found in the most unsuspected places, like, "You complete me," and "You had me at hello" -- two of the most recited lines from a sports movie, "Jerry Maguire."

They can be over-the-top mushy like the following. from Sweet Home Alabama: "The truth is ... I gave my heart away a long time ago, my whole heart ... and I never really got it back."

How great would it be to come up with some clever, colorful way to express I'm sorry when an apology is necessary, if "Love means never having to say you're sorry," from "Love Story," isn't true.

One that might turn her heart on a dime like this from "Dirty Dancing": "I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you."

My Valentine would probably have a priceless reaction, if similar words flowed off my tongue.

For that matter, I think it would be great to come up with any number of lines like those I Googled from "The Notebook," a movie my wife has seen numerous times.

"So it's not gonna be easy. It's going to be really hard; we're gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me ... everyday."

Then there's: "You are the answer to every prayer I've offered. You are a song, a dream, a whisper, and I don't know how I could have lived without you for as long as I have."

Yet another from "The Notebook" is: "You are my best friend as well as my lover, and I do not know which side of you I enjoy the most. I treasure each side, just as I have treasured our life together."

Granted, a little sappy, those are all pretty powerful, one must admit. Of course, my style is more to the point.

Wouldn't it be creative to think of one of these (full disclosure, also Googled):

-- "I've fallen in love many times ... always with you." ("Hearts Forever")

-- "I love you. I know, that only happens in movies, but I do really love you." (movie dialogue)

-- "To me, you are perfect." ("Love Actually").

There's no shortage of great movie love quotes or story lines that will wet the eyelids. My hat's off to those brilliant writers capable of thinking of them and the actors who bring them to life.

Most likely, there will be many watching their films this Valentine's weekend.

Generally, flowers, dinner and a romantic comedy make for a happy sweetheart. Chocolate doesn't hurt, either, I've found.

And, when it comes to romance, few truer words have been written than these: "If momma ain't happy, then no one's gonna be happy."
