Lake City Council discussed the purchase of two fire trucks at the Monday, Jan. 20, meeting.
Fire Chief Chris Snyder made a presentation to the council for the purchase of two fire trucks for the Lake City Volunteer Fire Department.
Chief Snyder met with the council in March 2013 and had been given approval by the council to purchase a truck within the $80,000 range. Chief Snyder discussed two trucks, a 1997 Freightliner FL80 four-door Commercial Pumper with cost of $59,000 and a 2014 Kenworth T-370 3,000 Gallon Tanker with the cost of $186,900.
Because of the recent fire in Lake City, the Fire Chief said the department is at the point where it must have more equipment. Prior approval had been made for the purchase of the lesser valued truck. The city must do the proper paperwork involved before purchase can be made. Council asked the Chief to return to the next meeting for review on funding for the higher value vehicle, before a full financial decision is made.
Resolutions for 2013 and 2014 budgets were accepted.
Lake City Mayor Jon Milligan told council members the city had received $15,000 of the GIF-1 grant money requested for a generator. In order to complete the purchase requirements for the generator for the Catfish Well Project, the mayor requested approval to use the funds from the Sales Tax Water/Sewer Improvement fund up to $25,000 to make the purchase. The council voted to allow the use of the funds to complete the purchase of the generator.
Mayor Milligan reviewed a plan for a crematorium for the new cemetery. The planning is in the early stages. Mayor Milligan said he hopes to have more information at the next meeting. Council was pleased with the design.
A public hearing will be held before the next city council meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 17, at City Hall. This meeting will be a public meeting to review the raising of water and sewer rates for the city. Also, Safe Routes to School, a sidewalk route within the city will be discussed. Sylvester Smith with Legacy Consulting will be at the meeting to answer any questions citizens might have. All residents are encouraged to attend this meeting.
The next regular scheduled council meeting will follow at 6:30 p.m.
