Junior Rebels maintain grip on 2A-3 Conference lead

Riverside found the road tough going last week in senior boys basketball action. The Rebels traveled to Rector Tuesday night and fell to the Cougars 68-53 before suffering a tough 63-59 loss at Augusta Friday night.

The Rebels, who fell to 18-9 overall and 8-4 in 2A-3 conference play, trailed Rector 18-11 after the opening period. The host Cougars took a 31-24 lead into the dressing room at the half and maintained a seven point advantage, 45-38, entering the fourth quarter.

Alec Scott led the Cougars with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Adam Dinkins scored 15 while Reed Weber added 14 points. Rector hit 14-23 foul shots and buried eight three pointers.

Victor Cerda led the Rebels with 17 points, connecting on four three pointers. Caleb Waugh also hit double digits, scoring 11 points. Kollin Stone had seven, Devon Austin tallied six, Ben Hensley netted five, Brandon Sain contributed four while Levi Reed pitched in three points. Riverside made 8-11 foul shots and drilled nine three pointers.

Riverside dropped behind Augusta 14-4 after the first quarter, before slicing the lead to 28-21 at the half. The Rebels pulled to within 42-36 entering the fourth period, and jumped ahead by six points during the final frame before watching the Red Devils rally in the closing minutes to secure the victory.

Brandon Sain poured in 17 points to lead the Rebels while Devon Austin and Victor Cerda added 16 and 14 points respectively. Kollin Stone grabbed 10 rebounds for Riverside.

Keandre Munns led Augusta with 18 points while Darius Warren tallied 17 and Anfernee Neal added 11.

In junior high action, Riverside clubbed Rector 37-21 before blasting Augusta 50-19.

Gavin Stone scored 10 points to lead the Rebels past the Cougars. Braden Overman and Dylan Davis had nine points each, Canon Walling tallied five while Dillon Turner chipped in four points.

Riverside (21-6, 11-1 2A-3) was led by Braden Overman's 11 points in the Rebels' 31 point victory over Augusta.

Riverside returns to the hard court Tuesday night hosting 2A-3 conference foe Marked Tree before celebrating homecoming against McCrory Friday night at Lake City.
