Buffalo Island Central claimed a pair of 2A-3 conference victories as the Lady Mustangs disposed of Cross County 66-41 Monday night before routing East Poinsett County 61-35 Thursday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.
Bailey Owens poured in 15 points to lead four Lady Mustangs in double figures in BIC's win over Cross County. Karo Thomas followed closely with 14 points while Megan Webster and Kelsey Strickland were next with 11 points apiece. Cidnie Brooks scored six, Taylor McKuin tallied four while Hannah Poe chipped in three points. BIC connected on 19-28 free throws and drilled seven three pointers on the night.
The Lady Mustangs bolted to a 20-2 lead after the first quarter and held a commanding 36-15 halftime advantage. BIC took a 52-25 lead into the fourth period.
Katie Martin led the Lady Thunderbirds with 10 points. Cross County went to the foul line just two times, failing to connect. The Lady Thunderbirds drained seven treys.
Hannah Poe popped the nets for 13 points to pace the Lady Mustangs over EPC. Taylor McKuin and Karo Thomas both recorded double-doubles. McKuin scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Thomas tallied 10 points and snared 17 boards. Bailey Owens also hit double digits, scoring 11 points. Madison Greathouse scored nine, Cidnie Brooks had four while Megan Webster chipped in three.
BIC (17-7, 9-4 2A-3) held a 19-5 lead after the first period and took a 35-12 advantage into the dressing room at the half. The Lady Mustangs led 46-23 after three quarters.
In junior high action, BIC (15-3, 11-4 2A-3) defeated Cross County 56-39 and EPC 41-22.
Heather Sipes topped the Lady Mustangs in their victory over Cross County, scoring 15 points. Jona Carmichael was next with 12 points while Molly Hart pitched in nine. Makayla Rogers scored seven, Kayla Griffin tallied five, Hailey Turner contributed four while Curston Davis netted two points. Madison Brown and Jessica Stull added one point apiece.
Rachel Wilson led the Lady Thunderbirds with 16 points while Brittany Belgard added 10 more.
Molly Hart scored nine points to lead BIC past EPC. Makayla Rogers contributed eight, Curston Davis and Heather Sipes tallied seven points apiece while Jona Carmichael pitched in four. Kayla Griffin and Lexi Walls netted two points each while Cadyn Qualls and Kensie Walker added one point apiece.
BIC will return to action Monday night, traveling to Marmaduke to take on the Lady Greyhounds in 2A-3 conference play. The Lady Mustangs will close the week with a road trip to Marked Tree in another league tilt.
