STEELE, Mo. -- The Gosnell Pirates picked up their first win of the year with a 58-54 victory over Clarkton, Mo. in the opening round of the SEMO Tournament in Steele, Mo.

The Pirates (1-2, 0-1 3-4A) jumped out to a 13-4 lead at the end of one period and led 32-19 at halftime. Clarkton cut the lead to five at 45-40 heading into the fourth period.

Gosnell's leading scorer, Rod Jones, was sidelined with an ankle injury and will miss some games according to Pirate head coach Kirk Glintborg.

"We just need to keep getting better and be ready to go in January," said Glintborg.

D.J. Jones led the Pirates with 16 points, T.J. Anderson added 14 and A.J. Jones chipped in six and grabbed seven rebounds. Will Rose pulled down 12 boards and Steven Smith dished out six assists.

The Pirates take on Caruthersville, Mo. at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
