Fans for both Riverside and Buffalo Island Central wore orange on Friday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex to honor Noah Cook, a 16 year old BIC student who lost his battle to leukemia after a brave two year fight. Noah passed away Nov. 15 at St. Jude Hospital.
A new club, For Noah Our Hero (FNOH), was formed by BIC students and Friday night was the kick-off. The club started with an idea by Greydon Williams who wanted to do something in memory of Noah. Greydon had no trouble getting fellow students to join him and on the first day 45 students participated. Their mission is to do community service projects with all proceeds being donated to St. Jude in honor/memory of Noah.
During the ballgame a table was set up for face painting (orange ribbons), along with a three point shoot-out during halftime. Fans were able to make a pledge per basket as Michael McFarlin, Brice Wells, Billy Gathright and Coach Carey Cossey stepped up to make as many three-point shots as they could in 90 seconds.
McFarlin made eight; Wells four; Gathright 13; and Coach Cossey 13.
Fans were presented an orange ribbon to wear with the pledge forms.
"We appreciate everyone who participated and took part in the fundraising event," Greydon said.
It was a successful night thanks to the generosity of the crowd. The evening raised over $1,500 to be donated to St. Jude for Noah.
