A certificate, red apple trophy, tee shirt and $200 in prizes were presented to Ms. Long.
She will also be eligible for the Rockin Apple Teacher of the Year Award.
Students nominate their teachers for the Rockin Apple award and one teacher is chosen each month to receive recognition for a job well done.
Ms. Long has taught at Riverside for 10 years. She teaches 10-12th grade English. She also teaches journalism, is Beta Club and junior class sponsor.
Baxter asked the students what made Ms. Long such a good teacher and comments included, "She makes English fun," "she makes it easy to learn."
The students enjoyed winning tee shirts for naming the singer from songs played by Baxter who kept the party moving along.
"It was a great surprise," Ms. Long said. "We have a great group of students here."
