Burlon Arlene Owens Flowers
Mrs. Burlon Arlene Owens Flowers, 92, of Blytheville, passed from this life Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Great River Medical Center.
Born in Booth Point, Tenn., to Jess and Lula Naney Owens, she was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Flowers was an avid gardener of roses and vegetables, who enjoyed sharing her bounty with her neighbors and family. Her friends were very special and she thought of them as family. She loved to cook and was often referred to as the best "barbequer" in the world.
Mrs. Flowers' love for her church was a sustaining force in her faith and relationship with God. Her love for individuals and family was reflective of her love for Christ. She was part of a special time who saw many challenges in life. She was able to overcome these challenges and adversities and became a strong, spiritual and giving person.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Paul Flowers; brothers Shelton Owens and Jess Owens Jr.; and sister, Maureen Smith.
Burlon is survived by her children, James Allen Walker and wife, Lucreta, of Loves Park, Ill., Kenneth Paul Flowers and wife, Pat of Houston, Texas, and Mary Jane Young of Oklahoma City, Okla.;
Her grandchildren, Cindy Hulett and husband, Bob, Marilyn Reitz and husband, Dave, Paige Seeley and husband, Blake, and Jessica Riley and husband, Brian;
Her great-grandchildren, Jesse Hulett, Allen Hulett, Jordyn Reitz, Rebecca Reitz, Dylan Seeley, Cody Seeley, Sarah Seeley, Owen Riley and Ian Riley.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Mr. Wheeler Gracy, who was more than a friend and more like her son, and also for the love and support of his wife, Linda. Also to the many friends and family who have been there to always take care of her needs. She loved them all.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Blytheville with the Rev. Mike Wey officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Cobb Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 10th and Highland, Blytheville, AR 72315.
