Monette Manor sponsored a series of activities in conjunction with October being Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Monette Manor sponsored a series of activities in conjunction with October being Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

Robertson Brothers furniture in Leachville donated a La-Z boy rocking/recliner to be given away. Tickets were purchased and the prize was given away following the walk on Oct. 18. Gary Romec, Monette Manor resident won the recliner.

Names of residents, staff, and guests who walked around the Monette Manor courtyard track was placed in the drawing for a basket. April Hamilton was the lucky winner of the basket.

Tee shirts were ordered in recognition of Monette Manor's favorite poster child, Cannon Ellis. Cannon was on hand for the walk and he was the entertainment for the day with his Elvis Show.

The green tee shirts were inscribed with "Cannon is our Hero," and "Down Right Perfect."

Residents and staff joined in the courtyard on Friday for a walk and balloon release before the show.

Wendy Carpenter, Monette Manor Activity Director, gave statistics on Down Syndrome and thanked everyone for their support of the event. Monette Manor raised $1,104 to be donated to the Down Syndrome Foundation.

She introduced Cannon.

"Cannon is our inspiration," Carpenter said. "He comes to visit us and entertains us. We love Cannon and enjoy his visits. He is the son of Rick and Lynn Ellis and is a Riverside High School graduate."
