Mississippi County citizens who still owe their real estate and personal taxes have until Oct. 15 to pay, according to County Collector Patricia Caldwell.
Tax revenues for Mississippi County continued to decline in August, following the trend they have taken since May.
The county's share of the 1-cent sales tax for this August was $102,193, down from $105,548 in July and from $120,474 in August of last year.
The half-cent economic development tax collected $255,590 in August, down from $264,046 in July and from $301,391 in August of 2012.
County officials have cited the continued drop-off of tax collections as one of many reasons why caution will still be needed in this year's budgeting process, in spite of an overall improved financial outlook.
For the most part, county fund balances are currently out of the red, following extreme budget cuts and employee layoffs last year. As of Aug. 30, the only county fund in the red was the road department, which showed itself at a deficit of $45,294.
