Blytheville Head Football Coach Vince McCrosky will not be at Friday night's season opener against Osceola. According to Blytheville Athletic Director David Hixson, McCrosky is on a medical leave of absence. He has not been at school this week.
"He's been getting better all week," said Hixson. "He's got everything under control. We're taking a day-to-day approach and just did not want to push the envelope this week. For the welfare of his health, we decided that this would be the best way to get him ready for what he's got to do."
Hixson said McCrosky may be back as early as next week, but until then, the head coaching duties have been spread out among the assistant coaches, particularly Joey Mosley, Ben Fisher and Bret Kirk.
"We have a phenomenal staff," said Hixson. "We feel strong in what we've got. We know the kids will respond."
McCrosky is in his second year as head coach of the Chickasaws. Tonight's game is at 7 p.m. The Chicks home opener is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 13 against Okolona, Miss.
