The Arkansas Hospitality Association has been awarded a grant from the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services to train 2600 food-service management employees in ServSafe Food Safety. The grant will make ServSafe Food Safety training available in more areas of the state and at a greatly reduced price. The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture has joined in this effort and will work with the Arkansas Hospitality Association to provide ServSafe classes to the clients of Arkansas. The cost is usually $110 but during this time will only be $30.00. This will be last time that the class will be offered at this price, so take advantage of this now.

The ServSafe program has become the industry standard in food-safety training. ServSafe provides accurate, up-to-date information for all levels of employees on all aspects of handling food, from receiving and storing to preparing and serving. You will learn science-based information on how to run a safe establishment and information all of your employees need to have in order to be a part of the food-safety team.

Food safety is non-negotiable. As a food service manager you know that serving safe food is not an option. Proper training is one of the best ways to create a culture of food safety within your establishment. This course is designed to train food service managers so they can in turn train their employees.

The ServSafe course for persons working in Food Service will be held in Paragould on Aug. 12 and 19 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The class will meet at the Paragould Community Center located at 3404 Linwood Drive. The cost per participant is $30.00. This will cover the book, exam and program cost. Please make checks payable to Greene County Extension Service. Attendance at both sessions is mandatory. Registration is due by Aug. 5 and seats are filled on a first come first served basis. Class size is limited.

Once participants have completed the classroom instruction, a test will be administered. Certificates will be issued to those who pass the test. What better way to assure the public that you are doing all you can to provide safe food?

The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service and Arkansas Hospitality Association are sponsoring this course. It is open to all persons regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status.

You must pre-register to attend the course. Registration is considered complete upon receipt of $30. To register send your name, address and telephone number to Greene County Extension Service, 201 West Court Street, Paragould, AR 72450.
