Mrs. Violet Genevie Whitney, 92, of Poplar Bluff, formerly of Blytheville, died Friday, May 24, 2013, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 5, 1920, in Blytheville, she was a homemaker and a member of Heartland Pentecostal Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan McGill and Annie Bazil McGill; her husband, Hubert Lee James Whitney; daughters Janet Vernon and Peggy Thomas; son Jimmy Lee Whitney; and sisters Eula Wallace, Lula Sipes, Jewell Springer and Mary Sipes.
Mrs. Whitney leaves three daughters, Wanda Ashmore of Hamilton, Sharon Provow of Gosnell and Tammy Smith of Poplar Bluff;
Two sons, Tony Whitney of Jonesboro and Carl Whitney of Poplar Bluff;
One sister, Bonnie Stokes of Blytheville;
One brother, Barney McGill of Luxora; and
Twenty grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon-2 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Blytheville. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Clifford Britt, will begin directly following the visitation at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Park.
