Manila earned the third seed in this week's regional tournament with a 9-0 shutout victory over Piggott Tuesday afternoon in the 3A-3 District Tournament at Manila.
Zach Reinhart picked up the win, throwing six innings of two-hit baseball. Reinhart fanned six while issuing four walks. The senior helped himself at the plate with a single, a double and three runs scored.
Brady Jones had a big day at the dish, slamming a two-run homer in the first inning to get the Lions off and running. Jones finished the afternoon 2-4 with five RBI and three runs scored. Trey Walker had a single and a double while Caleb Reinhart and Jordan Goff both drilled RBI singles. Alex Richard singled and scored a pair of runs.
The Lions fell to Harrisburg 3-0 Monday afternoon, despite Jones' one-hitter. The hard throwing senior right hander fanned 11 Hornets and did not issue a walk. Harrisburg scored the only run it would need when Brett Horsley singled, leading off the sixth inning. Horsley moved to second on an error, was sacrificed to third and came into score on a passed ball. The Hornets added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh with the help of a couple of errors and another passed ball.
The Lions traveled to Harrison to begin regional tournament play Monday. Tournament coverage will appear in next week's Town Crier.
