It's time to play ball
Spring sports have started and the Manila High School baseball team will be hosting games on an upgraded field at the Manila Ball Park. Spring sports have started and the Manila High School baseball team will be hosting games on an upgraded field at the Manila Ball Park.
Manila High School baseball Coach Bill Taylor expressed his appreciation to the school and city for a great partnership in the renovation giving the team a great field.
The laser-grade field is leveled and a clay base safe coat of top dressing added which will be great for drainage. Sod was added to the in-field.
"We appreciate the school and the city," Coach Taylor said. "The city crew has built new benches in the dugouts along with other upgrades."
The Manila baseball season began last week.
Manila will host the district tournament this season and Coach Taylor said they hope to get Regional tournaments in the future.
In addition to the fields, the fitness building 100 has been used by the team since January.
"We will soon see if it pays off," Coach Taylor said.
Mayor Wayne Wagner commended everyone who had a part in the renovation.
"It is for the kids," Mayor Wagner said.
Coach Taylor encourages the public to come out to the park and enjoy Manila High School baseball and softball games.
Work has also been done on the softball field the Lady Lions will be playing on.
