MARION--After dropping their season opener, 14-0, to 5A Greene County Tech on Tuesday, the Gosnell Pirates bounced back with a 6-3 win over 7A/6A Marion Thursday afternoon.
Junior Ricky Gable pitched 5 1/3 innings. Gable gave up two runs on five hits while striking out seven. Will Camp came on in relief and gave up one run on one hit over 1 1/3 to seal the win.
Gosnell broke a scoreless tie with six runs in the top of the sixth inning and held on for the win as Marion scored a pair in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Ethan Ballard, Carlos Blackmon, Jake Westmoreland and Andrew Scott each picked up a hit a piece for Gosnell (1-1).
The Pirates head to Jonesboro this afternoon to take on the 5A-East, Nettleton Raiders, at 4 p.m.
