Revenues for county general from Mississippi County's 1-cent sales tax were down in December.

For the last month of 2012, the tax brought $108,231.34 into the county's coffers, as compared to $125,358.50 in November.

Both numbers are still up, however, from December of 2011, when revenues totaled $103,313.16.

The county's half-cent economic development tax also experienced a downturn in revenues recently. In a steady decline from November of 2012, the tax brought in $270,690.66 in December, and $200,000.00 in January. Last November was the biggest revenue month of the year, with an income of $313,511.56.

County Judge Randy Carney recently commented that he expects $12 million in economic development tax funds will be appropriated as part of the incentive for Big River Steel, which Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe announced earlier in the week will soon locate near Osceola, provided state legislators approve state funding for the project.
