The Master Gardener program for Mississippi County will be opening enrollment in January and anyone with an interest in gardening is invited to apply.
The program is a great way to work closely with friends on projects that help beautify the community and instill pride, according to Master Gardener Betty Koval.
"It's really rewarding to see a plot that was once kind of ugly turn into something very beautiful that reflects well on you and the community as a whole," Koval said. "We live here, work here and play here -- wouldn't it be great to help make it beautiful?"
The program requires applicants to go through a 40-hour Master Gardener training program, offered by the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service in cooperation with Arkansas Northeastern College, volunteer at least 40 hours and obtain 20 additional hours of learning with their first year.
