J. T. "Rope" Harris
J. T. "Rope" Harris, 83, of Ravenden, formerly of Gosnell, passed from this life Sunday, October 28, 2012 at The Med in Memphis.
Born in Manila to Ira and Bessie Wright Harris, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and served as Chief of Police in Gosnell.
"Rope" was a former railroad depot agent, a AA pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, a former deputy with the Mississippi County Sheriffs Department, an Arkansas Game Warden in the Manila Area and was a charter member of the Northeast Arkansas Archeology Society.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Allen Harris; and a brother, Marm Harris.
He is survived by his grandchildren, J.T. Harris II and wife, Shannon, of Blytheville, and Regan Harris of Mt. Home;
A sister, Rita McCain and husband, Jimmy, of Leesburg, Fla., as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with the Rev. Steve Spears and Mr. Billy Holifield officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-noon Friday at Cobb Funeral Home. An online register may be signed at cobbfuneralhome.com
