An Air Force theme is set for Delta Gateway Museum's next "Heirloom Saturday at the Museum" to be held from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday. Coffee and donuts will be served.
In honor of the Blytheville Air Force Base reunion later this month, the museum will feature objects related to local Air Force base history. Museum officials invite area residents to bring their own Air Force heirlooms and memorabilia for others to see and appreciate.
"This month we're focusing on the important role that Blytheville Air Force Base, and later Eaker Air Force Base, played in this region for many years," said museum director Leslie Hester. "We hope people will bring items to share and that others will also come out to socialize and learn more about the history of the Air Force base."
Examples of the types of objects that people might bring are uniforms and hats; patches, ribbons and pins; photographs, posters and other printed materials; flags and banners; and tools and field weapons (unloaded, of course!).
In addition to the Heirloom Saturday event, the museum's Air Force exhibit will be open to the public throughout September. Regular hours are 1-4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays.
Delta Gateway Museum is housed in the historic Kress Building at 210 W. Main Street in downtown Blytheville. For more, contact Leslie Hester at lhester43@yahoo.com or 870-824-2346.
