The home of Bob and Oleta Dunavin Birondo, 205 Hogan Street, Monette, has been chosen as the Yard of the Month for August.
Monette City Beautification Committee members presented were Barbara Suber, Steve Suber, Raye Finley and Nan Snider. A framed certificate was presented to the Birondos which read "The home of Bob and Oleta Birondo has been recognized as having the most beautifully landscaped and manicured yard in the entire Monette community for the month of August, 2012." The YOM sign was placed in the front yard to signify the honor and a hanging basket of annual flowers was presented to the owners.
The Birondos are both retired and maintain their spacious 130x180' lot as a personal hobby and recreation. The yard has pecan trees, maple, redbuds, crepe myrtles and a variety of cannas, annual plants and tropical plants in decorative containers. They expressed great joy in seeing the large blue blooms of the hydrangea in their front yard, as the plant was a personal favorite of Mrs. Birondo's mother, Tressie Dunavin.
The Birondos enjoy living near family members and high school classmates, as well the neighbors and friends they have met after returning to Monette. Visits from their daughter, Jenice Birondo Williams, her husband Travis, their two grandchildren and two great grandchildren of Las Vegas are always a special treat. They worship regularly at the Monette First Baptist Church, and are supportive of all community events.
