The city of Blytheville's two road department employees were terminated Tuesday morning by new Public Works director Marvin Crawford.
Crawford said the two were dismissed because of an issue with unauthorized absences, and he does plan to rehire for their positions, both of which are mainly for manual labor. He added that until the slots are filled, his department has other employees capable of doing the work who can be reassigned to temporarily cover the vacancies.
Crawford was appointed to the position of director at the end of last week by Mayor James Sanders. Prior to holding this position, he spent 31 years in law enforcement, including several years wherein he served as the Blytheville Police Department's assistant chief.
