Despite some recent rainfall, Mississippi County Judge Randy Carney said the county burn ban is still in effect and will continue until further notice.

According to the National Weather Service, the Blytheville-Gosnell area has received just over 2 inches of rain since Saturday. This amount of rainfall, however, was not enough to lift the county-wide burn ban issued in late June; and with such small amounts of sporadic rainfall, the ban may not expire any time soon.

"We just haven't had any significant rainfall," Carney said, adding that until the county sees more rain, it's just too dangerous to lift the ban.

Carney said he isn't looking for any specific amount of rain, in terms of inches, but that after each rain the county will be surveyed to see if the ground was absorbing water and whether or not it is safe for people to resume burning.
