Blake Carr, Manila High School senior, will be taking his golf skills to the college level. Blake signed a letter of intent Thursday afternoon to play golf for the University of Arkansas Monticello (UAM).
Family, friends, and teammates gathered for a reception in his honor and offered their congratulations to him following the signing ceremony.
Blake is the son of Terry and Barbara Carr.
Manila Golf Coach Mike Bridges congratulated Blake on taking his golf to the next level.
Coach Bridges expressed his appreciation to Blake for his dedication and work ethics on the golf team.
Blake said playing college golf has been a longtime dream of his and he is looking forward to the experience.
He will be joining two of his former golf teammates, J.J. Helton and Garrett Scott, who graduated last year and are members of the UAM golf team.
Blake's average score is 73-74. The Manila Lions won District his senior year and Blake finished 12th in the state. They also won District his junior year.
UAM golf coach Heather Wall said she is pleased to have Blake join the team. She coaches the girls and boys golf teams at UAM.
"Blake and his parents came to visit the campus recently and I am glad he has decided to join us," Coach Wall said. "He is a great guy and has a great family. I am excited to have him sign on."
Coach Wall said she also signed Lauren and Sarah Roddy from Buffalo Island Central earlier in the year.
"I am getting a lot of good kids and they are serious about golf," Coach Wall said, "I am looking forward to the season.
In addition to golf, Blake has been a member of the Manila high school basketball team and baseball team.
