Gosnell Elementary Principal Angie Middleton lived up to her word Friday afternoon, allowing herself to be taped to a tree on the campus because the school achieved its goals on last year's Benchmark tests. The school moved from from state-directed Adequate Yearly Progress programs in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 school years to being categorized as having achieved state standards in the 2010-11 school year. Recently, Middleton said the school has shown great improvement with the largest percentage of the students ranking proficient or better and the below basic ranking virtually disappearing from the statistics. With 69 percent of the schools in Arkansas being in alert or improvement, this is a huge accomplishment for Gosnell, according to Middleton.
