Jimmie J. Turner
Jimmie J. Turner, 88, of Lake City passed away Tuesday Feb. 21, 2012, at Lakeside Nursing Center. Jimmie was born March 16, 1923, in Randolph, Miss., to the late Organ Henry and Ollie Mae Turner. He was a retired carpenter and welder, and in his spare time he loved to do woodwork in his shop and gardening with his wife. He was a member of the Community of Christ in Caraway, where he served as a Deacon. He was always lending a helping hand at church and in the community. He loved spending time at the Senior Citizen Center in Lake City. Those that were privileged to know Jimmie, say that he was hardworking, kind person that loved to tell stories and jokes.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Ross Turner; and three brothers, Kent, Raymond, and George Turner.
Survivors include his wife, Atrell Thornell Turner; three sons, Jimmie Turner of Lake City, Larry Turner and his wife Eileen of Lanham, Md.; Dennis Turner and his wife Patricia of Kingston Springs, Tenn.; two sisters, Uras Gillespie and Rebecca Holcomb both of Pontotoc, Miss.; three grandchildren, Julie Nichols, Mark Turner, and Alexander Turner; great-grandchildren, Jose Sousa, Cameron Nichols, stepgrandchildren; David Watson, Jennifer Decker, Danny Leach, Greg Leach, and Emily Leach; a host of nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
Funeral service was 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Elder Wayne Heidelberg and Elder Gary Earnhart officiating. Burial followed in Monette Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Reed officiating with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Visitation was held Friday evening from 6-8 at Emerson Funeral Home.
