Buffalo Island Central Athletic Department was recognized Friday evening at the MAC for their Relay Madness free throw fund raiser. The young athletes of BIC participated in a free throw competition raising money for the Buffalo Island Relay for Life.
The group raised $1,900.50 in their effort to fight cancer.
Brenda Matheny, Buffalo Island Chairman, said she appreciates the coaches, players and everyone who contributed to make fundraiser a success.
"This was the first free throw fund raiser for the BI Relay and we hope it can become an annual event," Matheny said.
Jackie Wallis, Relay for Life American Cancer Community Representative was on hand to present the BIC Athletic Department with a plaque.
"We appreciate all you have done," Wallis said. "The money will go to cancer research and our hope is someday we can live in a country where there is no cancer. It would make me happy to be out of a job. We do appreciate all you have done and look forward to working with you in the future. I always enjoy visiting in the Buffalo Island area."
Accepting the plaque on behalf of the athletic department was Coach Marty Williford.
