Arkansas Welcome Center manager Diane James retired this week after 17 years on the job.

James started working at the Welcome Center in December of 1994. After 17 years on the job, and 40 years total working for the government, she said this has been the best job she ever had.

"I love meeting people and being able to help them," said James. "Someone may come in and they're lost and panicked and I get to help them get back on track."

Even though the center is a great source for those just passing through, James also encourages locals to come out and visit.

"We have information on the entire state here," James said. "We have anything people might want to know. I think locals sometimes find it hard to get here without being on the interstate. Some don't realize you can come in the gate at the back. Everyone should come check it out, though."

The Arkansas Welcome Center is located on the southbound side of Interstate 55, just north of Blytheville.
