This past Tuesday night was indeed a red-letter day for the Humane Society! It was well attended by some say 25 others, say 27. I say what a great meeting!
We have at long last declared a board of governors for the society. We have declared that November is the beginning of the fiscal new year. We have elected officers, most of which are already serving, with Susie Brooks newly elected as vice president. Very nice choice. Susie and her husband are great animal lovers and are forever offering a better mouse trap.
It is very encouraging to have new people with new ideas and sure makes for a better organization. The new board consists of Marla Bracy, serving position 3; Nancy Bray, position 5; Cindy Carlock, position 8; Sherry Davis, position 6; Syd Hawks, position 2; Susie Langston, position 11; Christy McCormick, position 9; Ann Smith, position 10; Cindy Ray, position 1; Cindy Rix, position 4; Lisa Henderson, position 7.
I suppose with 3 Cindys on our board, we can't go wrong.
Positions 1,2,3 and 4 will be for one year; positions 5,6,7 and 8 will serve for two years. Positions 9,10 and 11 will serve three years. At last, once again, we will have some control over decisions made. Years past, we have had so few people attending the meetings we just all pitched in and did what was needed and what we felt was right -- after all, it is all about the animals. Following the meetings, we will continue to socialize, schmooze and hopefully stay friends.
Speaking of friends, Richard Schlosser will be extending his offer of animal pictures so that he can have time for those that weren't able to be photographed in such a short period of time. Scholsser's Photography, 820 E. Main ... telephone 870-763-3326 -- give him a call and get scheduled. He will be extending picture taking until Nov. 12. These pictures really make great greeting cards. Remember he volunteers to do this for the shelter; he is not keeping the money. We appreciate his many talents and his generosity.
This past Monday a large group of us went to the shelter thrift store, "Sweet Tea," to lend a hand to Nancy Bray. We made a dent in all the "need to do" things. I can hardly wait for everyone to come see the classy things she has to offer. It is a spin off of the "too full," thrift store out at the shelter. Which brings to mind, out at the Connealy building in Gosnell, we have even more donations for the shelter. If you are needing a couch and chair, we have one. There is an array of interesting donations. We will have an ad in the paper soon, or just come on out and take a look -- all the monies go to the care of the many animals. Understand, the old thrift store is not being replaced -- just extended to give a little relief to that store. Lordy, we are becoming a chain. All jokes aside -- this community is the giveness people I ever saw.
The Cotton Classic Car Club had its regular meeting and gave its regular donation. How good is that? I'll tell you, dang good! Good friend Jerry Van Bibber gave us a wonderful donation -- with friends like him we can carry on. Thanks Jerry, if I wasn't 'spose to recognize your donation, blame it on old age.
As Jazz would say: "It is the things we always hold that we will lose someday. The only things we keep are those we give away."
Shelter needs: Continued support, and throw in some bleach, laundry soap, paper towels, T.P. and dishwashing soap if you please, we would be ever so grateful. Don't forget Dec. 5 -- mark your calendar and come out for fun and Mary Arriola's great spaghetti and do a little Christmas shopping. We have some really great donations for the auction. Hope to see ya there. Look for us at the Jaycee building.
