Early voting on the statewide highway bond election will continue through Monday of next week, with election day being held Tuesday, Nov. 8.
According to the Federal Voting Assistance program, the state highway bond issue, if passed, will renew $575 million in bonds, which will be used to repair approximately 300 million miles of interstate highways in Arkansas. These new bonds issued will be paid for with an existing 4-cent diesel fuels excise tax, which will serve as a match for federal funds. The revenue may be used to accelerate highway improvements already under way or scheduled, fund new interstate highway improvement projects, and finance restoration and reconstruction of the interstate highway system statewide.
Early voting has already begun and will continue Friday and Monday from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Moore Center in Blytheville, the Depot in Manila and the Osceola Courthouse.
For election day, Tuesday, normal poll sites have been cut down to 10 county wide. Voting will take place from 7:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Blytheville Moore Center, the Gosnell Community Center, the Manila Depot, the Leachville library, the Charles Strong Center in Luxora, the Osceola Main Street Office, the Keiser library, the Wilson library, the Dyess Community Center and the Birdsong fire station.
